Bloom's Taxonomy

Bloom’s Digital Taxonomy in the Saudi EFL Classrooms

Bloom's Taxonomy is a classification of learning objectives within education, It refers to a classification of the different objectives that educators set for students (learning objectives). Bloom's Taxonomy divides educational objectives into three "domains":  Cognitive domain:  skills in the cognitive domain revolve around knowledge, comprehension, and critical thinking of a particular topic.
Affective domain: Skills in the affective domain describe the way people react emotionally   and their ability to feel another living thing's pain or joy. Affective objectives typically target the awareness and growth in attitudes , emotion, and feelings.
Psychomotor domain : Skills in the psychomotor domain  describe the ability to physically manipulate a tool or instrument like a hand or a hammer. Psychomotor objectives usually focus on change and/or development in behavior and/or skills.

Bloom’s Taxonomy is not  very well evident in the Saudi EFL classrooms , teachers always use traditional way of teaching they ask students to remember all information  they  have taken . Also they may reach to comprehension and application skills . It is necessary for teachers to use it in their classrooms, to improve student's learning process and to enhance their critical thinking. Me as a teacher , I will keep these Blooms Taxonomy skills  in mind , I will try to enhance students to think , analyze  new information to understand as will as to evaluate  not just remember.

The Role Of Webquest in learning a second language

The term WebQuests has been defined as " inquiry-oriented activates or assignments which engage students through technology and the World Wide Web, most or all information that students work with comes from the web."

vWebQuests can promote reflection, collaboration, cooperation, open minded thinking, multiculturalism, critical thinking, problem solving and an interdisciplinary approach.

vContrary to the traditional ESL /EFL learning , WebQuest is motivating students when they do their work to actively participate in group discussion when exploring an issue. They can develop search skills and critical thinking skills when finding information from resources on the Internet.

vWebQuests allow students to complete authentic projects and use technology to find and present information at the same time.

vWebQuest is designed thematically to enable students to acquire critical thinking skills.

How would English language teachers use blogs, wikis and delicious with their students?

Nowadays, technologies offer powerful new ways to provide students with direct experience in the classroom curriculum. Using social websites like: Wiki, Blog, and Delicious make learning and teaching  more interesting and can be a powerful and effective technology tool for students and teachers. Technology really help developing and enhancing the learning process

Using Blogs:
A blog (short for weblog) is a personal online journal. Blogs activities are very beneficial when it comes to shy students. It encourages them to participate and express themselves in a blog. Also it improves student's writing skills, by asking them to reflect on a particular article, or post comments in their collegues' blogs.

Using wiki:

A wiki is a space on the Web where you can share work and ideas, pictures and links, videos and anything else you can think of. Wikispaces is special because it gives you a visual editor and a bunch of other tools to make sharing all kinds of content as easy for students as it is for their teachers. Teachers can upload many materials, resources, handouts and assignments, it  also allows students to share their findings, materials and everything they know. It encourages group activities.

Using delicious:

Delicious is a social bookmarking web service for storing, sharing, and discovering web bookmarks. By using this tool, students will be encouraged to share different websites with each other. It's a useful and enjoyable way to share links that will help them in developing English language. Teachers might ask thier students to search for good websites related to thier units, and share the links with colleagues.

The Possiblity of Reaching  Bax’s  Normilasation in our national context: Why is it possible? When is it possible/reached/achieved?How will it be reached?

Normalization means to integrate CALL ( computer assisted language learning ) in education in a way that learners and teachers do not recognize it as a technology but as an integral part of language teaching.
Stephen Bax  explains how was the CALL in the past, how it is now, and how it will be in the future. He also explains the three phases of CALL which has been identified by Warschauer and Healey: Behaviouristic, Communicative and Integrative. Bax said that call will reach the stage of normalization when computers are used every day in our classrooms of learning language by students and teachers.

In Saudi Arabia, a little early, teachers tend to explain the lessons by using traditional materials such as, board, chalk, book, pen, worksheets. And gradually they begin to use technology in schools and improving education. They start to use smart board at most schools now. In order to applied normalization, teachers must be aware of the importance of technology as a part of the educational process and to be able to integrate it with learning . To be able to reach the state of normalization which Stephen Bax is referring to: we have to prepare the schools and universities with the technological devices computers, projectors, and a good network. The teacher can ask students to search about an article or a video that related to their lesson on classroom may this make them more active and interested in learning. Using power point presentation to explain the lesson, send the assignments via Email or upload it on any online web. Interact with students by using communication networks (Twitter, Blogger, Facebook). All these could develop learning process and make it normalized through time.
